that is just another fad/popculture site with no citations.  i'm not really trying to be mean... it's just stupid stuff like that gets passed on as fact far too often. here is alink including a link to a letter from an apparently famous orinthologist supporting my position =P
http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/birds/a/wedding_rice.htm

edit: i had to add this link... it's pretty darn funny

also, though totally unrelated, i have a hard time seeing how any higher animal can not vent gases from their GI tract.  my understanding is a lot of digestive processes produce gases as a byproduct.  i reckon any animal with hydrochloric acid as a digester should be producing some kinds of gas and must needs have a way to vent it. i never read, but i reckon all mammals have HCl acid... so it sorta stands to reason all can vent gases.  i could be wrong... i am not a degreed anything... but i just have a hard time seeing how the world could work if rats can't fart or burp.

that is possibly the most awesome sentence i have written this year!

also, i thought wafarin was a blood thinner?

i... have a doubt or two that you actually pulled 5lbs of meat out of a human corpse.  some idiot who wolfs down (i.e. large bites with little chewing) McD's every day could have that much... or possibly even more. and if he were suffering from a condition like divirticul- -osis or -itis it would increase that as a possiblity. but the average person has maybe 5lbs of stuck stuff in their whole GI tract.  i read a pretty funny article about it with plenty of mayo clinic level citations that basically said the whole "you have a small child worth of stuff stuck in your colon" was hippy nonsense designed to sell colon cleansers and what not :)  (oh, the point of that article was that said cleansers either do no good or some harm and should not be legal to sell)

anyhow... this is not really pertinent.  a centipede's digestive system and in general the way they eat is hugely different from a person.  essentially, a centipede is forced to either take VERY tiny bites or to highly "masticate" normal sized bites, depending on how you want to look at it.  their mouth hole is very small and large bites of food just can not get into their digestive system.

please read what i said about dog food... it really doesn't expand that much in my experience... and a centipede doesn't have a lot of free water rolling around in their digestive tract, anyways

what do you mean by a once a month tank cleaning?  you actually need to replace fouled substrate, not just do a spot cleaning.  if you are doing a full substrate replacement every month you are er, not doing it right.  once i get my centipedes established i do a substrate replacement as needed... which is once every year or two on average.  if i feed too much and keep them too moist too often then the sub will foul MUCH faster than that, though.  i have had centipedes live on the same substrate for as long as three years a few times, actually

Now if that isn't an excellent example of creative writing, I dont know what is!    You inspire me!
