Hello everyone,
I am new to the tarantula hobby, and I don't actually have any tarantulas yet, but I hope to get one in the future.
I had an experience with a California tarantula that I found hanging out at my school a couple of weeks ago.  In the evening when I first spotted him, he seemed ok, but by the next morning he was looking a bit under the weather.

I decided to take him home to see if I could get him to perk up.  I had read up a little bit about them, and decided that perhaps he was just a bit dehydrated.  One night with his mouth in a lid of water got him walking around again, so I set him up in a little plastic critter cage with some carefresh for bedding.  He seemed to be doing well for a few days, but then got the dehydrated look again, but the water didn't help this time.

Some more google image searches got me to thinking that he was a mature male, maybe that's why he died.

Anyhow, that experience has left me with a fondness for tarantulas, and now I want keep one.

Welcome to the group! Yes, you likely had a male, there.

Let us know if you need any help finding a T. There are many beautiful species to choose from.

Did you figure out how you found us? hehe

Welcome to SFBATS! I hope you'll make it to our meeting on July 11th.

Welcome! Welcome!

I'll have to stick July 11 into my calendar!  And I'm pretty sure that I must have found this site from craigslist, looking for tarantulas you know. :)

I'm still thinking about what species of tarantula I want, but I think that it would be pretty cool to start with a little one and watch is grow up.
