I'm having a curious experience with the Chaco Golden Knee (Grammostola pulchripes) which I obtained a week ago. It never touches the substrate. It has stayed basically up on the side of its kritter keeper since I got her/him.
The substrate is cocofiber of the more coarse variety - I inadvertently got a brick of "mixed" type instead of the more pulverized type, but I don't think that should matter much. As with all of my specimens on cocofiber, I squeezed the excess from it and packed it down. I would say it is only vaguely damp, and has desiccated quite a bit from the heat pad under half the tank.
The only time I have gotten the Chaco to stay on the substrate was after handling it for an extended period of time a few days after getting it. When I put it back in, it went straight for the water dish and drank for at least a half hour... then climbed back up the wall. Yesterday, when I handled it and put it back, it seemed to REALLY hate the ground and kept turning back around and coming up my hand.
So: how do other folks here keep their Chacos? Anyone else noticed this?

Peter, I was able to feel the sub today at the show and it seemed a little damp, I would suggest you put the sub in your oven for about 30 minutes to get it totally dry. Let it cool off and then put it back into her KK. That should do the trick. I think she really does not like any dampness. _________________ Visit me @Tarantulas.us

I second that, also, this is going to sound funny, but you might want to put her in a toilet paper tube and stick her back in there. She spent about three months in one before I sent her on to you.
