Winter Meeting Jan 23, 2010-- Planning ThreadOk, we're working out the date our 2010 Winter meeting. We just need to confirm with the hall availability before we announce the date.
Otherwise, feel free to discuss the Winter meeting plans in this thread.
We can start by deciding on a name, again.
Last couple have been 'Winter Webfest'
Shall we go with this, again?
======================
UPDATE: Winter meeting will be held Jan 23, 2010 at the Concord Veteran's Hall from 11:30--4:00

Unfortunately, that sounds too much like "world wide web" to me and may inadvertently confuse. The word "web" is permanently ruined now, methinks.
What about Tarantula Wonderland?
Winter Tarantula Wrap? (That sort of sounds like some seasonal menu item at Chipotle...)
Frigid Arachnid Fantasia?
Tarantula Sleigh Ride?
Chill-icerae Challenge?

My thoughtsI think that we need to keep our quarter meetings name's the same, because people remember them. WE have already gone through the process of naming them.
Let's just work on the procuring of the meeting hall, collecting donated items for the raffles, food sign-ups and maybe a speaker for January.
Keep it simple !

This will be my first meeting and I am REALLY hoping to make it! Any idea when the date will be positively known?
And oh, as for the name, I think Winter Webfest is very clever and cute! I must admit though, I would assume "Webfest" referred to the internet instead of spiders which is not nearly as fun!

I'll try to get a confirmed date tomorrow (Thurs) :)

What Ann said.
That's why in my earlier comment I endorsed not using "web". Besides which, not all tarantulas would be known as making webs.

Where does one find a big chocolate big in order to make bacon choco chip cookies?
Yes, Ann, we usually have a potluck lunch for everyone. Anyone who wishes to make a dish to share is free to do so!

I think you meant "pig", right? If not, that was a very Dada response.
The potluck is great. We make a big, fat breeding ground for cold and flu viruses by putting all sorts of finger food on a table, so that all the visiting children can stick their saliva-drenched fingers into it. You know, "sharing."

Thanks John! I'm glad the background is working out nice :) As far as a corp. donation, Clark loves beneficial insects, the tarantula being one of em :) . I am more than happy to get this rolling, you guys have been great, from day one on the forums you guys have been a great help so its my pleasure looking out for SFBATS!!

Can we use my spider drawing?
|
BCathcart
|
I vote for Edgars design!!!
|
Arachnocat
|
We're totally putting that on the flyer. lol.
I guess I should get to designing that! Unless Lony wants to this time.
|
BayLee

No, no Rachel, you do such a great job.

I'm not that great w/ photoshop or anything, but I could draw up a flyer if you guys want. Let me know.

EdgarOrtega

Awesome! Its good know who has the know how. I BELIEVE Rachel is working on something for this one, so we'll see.
RAFFLE!
Our raffles are our biggest fundraising sources, so if you have something you'd like to donate for our Winter Meeting Raffle, let us know. The more the better!
You may donate:
o Inverts
o Cages
o Supplies
o etc. etc
Anything that would be cool to win and generate ticket sales at the meeting. Let us know if there is something you'd like to donate to our raffle.
|
squirrel

I'll donate a 10 gallon tank background!

EdgarOrtega

I can give you guys a couple art prints if your interested for the raffle...I just dont know if i can afford to have them all framed atm...
|
EdgarOrtega
|
Vince, that's a great idea. To keep them nice, you could use a clear slip envelope with stiff card stock backing like they use to sell photographs.
That'll be rad, your prints are really cool. Thanks, Vince.
|
Sparky
|
I can always donate a patch or tote bag. :)
|
adversary
|
What's the address?
|
EdgarOrtega
|
Awesome, Sparky! This raffle is dripping with raddness, already.
If anyone wants to donate something for the raffle, let us know or bring it to the meeting. This is our main fundraising source, so we appreciate everyone's donations. :)
===================================
Is the Vets Hall heated? I cant remember, and it will be January.
Do I need to bring sweaters for my bugs? Ya'll should see my obt's in their cardigans.

The address is Concord Veterans Hall, 2290 Willow Pass Rd, Concord. The room we use is in the basement.

I can bring a propane heater if it's going to be too cold.
|
CodeWilster
|
Hmmm good thinking it sure has been super cold this year already....I have an awesome infrared ceramic (electric) heater that I use to keep my T room warm. It's made to heat up 300 sq ft but at least it wouldn't smell like gas! I think it would work great actually (heats up my large bedroom from 70-80F in about 20 minutes), it's super safe and good on energy. My animals wouldn't mind *one* chilly day So, as long as there is some kind of outlet somewhere to plug it into I can setup the heat in the center of the hall somewhere
(on a side note, I think everyone should have one of these for their T rooms, herp rooms, or living rooms!)

I will think of something to bring as well, if I can't find anything I might bring this high priced show fella, he has been weacking up the cell phone bill for the past few months. He also wakes me up every night at around 4:30am. He does however keep your feet warm.

I am a big fan of "Hello My Name Is..." stickers, especially when it comes to abusing them with confusing names. I encourage everyone to print this out and use it for themselves.
