Tarantulittles

My attention has been sparked by the smaller species of Ts . . Both by BayLees description of a dwarf species with a beautiful marking she owns and the one daveemory had at the Exploritorium that had a long abdomen and was yellow and had a trippy stuccatto type locomotion tho it was in Still Mode as i beheld it . These are only mentioned in passing in the somewhat dated T books i have , but im under the impression they are many , but not popular because they are small , i guess?
Im very curious about them and would love to learn more and see some pics

That weird trippy one was my orange Selenobrachys philippinus, which (as you might guess) is from the Philippines.  I must have been losing my mind, as I told anyone who asked that it was from Thailand and Burma.  Um, no.

There are so many species of tarantula which are unidentified, as Lony can tell you... and I just saw on another forum a posted photo of an Aphonopelma dwarf species in the Mojave.  I keep getting surprised.  That's partly why I've found this to be such a nifty hobby - I can keep learning about a new one, probably indefinitely!

Another reason to love the Mohave . Oh man a little Aphonopelma my breath actually caught as i read that . my dream is to have a little roadside living museum in the Mohave and to live there till i die happy . People in town would say " Y'know, we havent seen hide nor hair of ol Kel in months maybe we should go out there and check a looksee . ." and there i would be in a lawn chair - a sun bleached skeleton in the sun - free for the basking of any snake or lizard who wandering by . Welcome .
Any more info on more little Ts appreciated ! Thanks daveemory!!
BayLee

Kelly, you have a such a great sense of humor....

I sure hope that won't happen.

Cyriocosmus are a beautiful genus indeed:

By far some of the best looking Tarantulas in my opinion.

Mikhail Bagaturov has some great info on his website.
UglyKid2

That is such a great pic, Lony. Hurry and get your camera fixed!
BayLee

Yeah, no kidding. I will have to bring it in this week. I felt so naked yesterday without my camera.

Lovely Little Mysteries

Thank you everyone ! All day i have been thinking about tiny Ts . Realistically i know i will never have an expansive T collection , my hands will always be full with my reptile/rescue responsibilities but i have the T addiction and I am daydreaming aloud about the smaller sp someday becoming my niche in the hobby . My journey begins with finding out as much as i can . . Intuitively i humbly surmise that they are distinctively Beautiful and perhaps many are quite specialized ? . . the elegans certainly is a stunning spider . I will research more!

Mikhail Bagaturov

I just looked at Mikhail Bagaturov's site and saw the Cyriocosmus pics . . Also i love the way he writes ! . . " these enigmatic , mystic and beautiful creatures . . "  i cant help but feel it was Awe that composed the inner spire that matrixed into The Sciences and for so long cold and numbered data Only was the signature of the scholar but scientists like Bagaturov embrace the whole and original soul of study of life . To purposefully detach from the character and beauty of living forms studied - does it mean we are being more serious , or simply  less observant ?

There's a 1.5" mature male C. elegans at petcenterusa.net right now for $55, in case you want to adopt...  Paul Becker is my favorite on-line dealer and a very helpful guy.

Maybe my little dream is going to come true (!)   thank you im going to hit the hay now and think . .  i need to learn more  talk to you and Lony before  about how you have your guys set up
balam

check this out ;)

http://scabies.myfreeforum.org/about3660.html

Their set-ups can be as simple (all they need is a good amount of substrate to burrow, a "rock" or bark piece to burrow under, heat and humidity), or as complicated as you'd like (complicating set-ups can result in hours of clean-up  ).

They are incredibly nifty little guys, (I still love C. sellatus, C. leetzi and C. perezmilesi), but C. elegans is an incredible little T as well.

I am currently raising some C. argentinense. I understand they are not as flashy  , but once you get into dwarfs you realize they all have an incredible appeal to them. Be it their hunting skills (C. elegans packs a punch ;)). I've found a lot of the dwarfs are extremely feisty with their food. C. elegans will do the "cricket rodeo" with crix exceeding their own size

Good luck in finding what's right for you ;)

Confusing listing, but might be a very cheap C. perezmilesi:

darth skippy

i think it's more likely a cyclosternum fasciatum but still a decent deal
Bonobo

Thank you what great stuff to wake up to this Am . i have a huge change jar by the front door ,  where i empty my pockets when i come in . thats how i can justify the expense  and  have always totally planned on getting a terrestrial plus when my avic molts she is going into another encl and that leaves the 2 gal free
  * Yes! the dwarfs sound fantastic & fun to observe built like little power packs ! In the goal that is forming i would want a nice representation - not only the flashy but monkey that i am the flashy is going to be my first: speaking of which i cant wait to see how my avic comes out . . Ts seem to call out to be painted on velvet like Elvis
Bonobo

HOLY MOLY . . . leetzi !
BayLee

I would have to say Holy Guacamole  .... leetzi!
daveemory

Super cheap dwarfs here!  (No, these are not being sold by me.)

Chasing Down a Dwarf

Im waiting on arachnoboard administrator to see whats holding up my registration . oh brother . today i read the Bagaturof information in rapt detail . . i hope the elegans guy will still have some if not maybe the next SFBATS mtg that way no shipping in this crazy weather and it would be funner . Lets see what happens at the end of the rainbow , oh i thank you for spurring me along and all the good knowledge . i love to immerse in all the info i can when im about to get an animal its like having a wicked crush
llamamama

I have one of those...she likes to hide a lot though, so getting pics means digging her out.  Sigh.
Bonobo

i have a very cute little syrian greek tortoise F at the store with your name on it llamama . Only the males were that warm orangy color but she's pretty i thought intergrade but ithink they are just variable . Shes a wee little tonka truck tho
Bonobo

Shoot! im still on "moderation queue" to be activated  'Queue?'  i had to get my dictionary . Before i got this computer i thought i had a decent vocabulary . i am thinking yes - it would be so much more fun to get my dwarf at sfbats meeting . im excited !
Bonobo

Still Looking

I finally emailed the elegans guy on Arachnoboards but i guess he has no more left . . . Maybe at the meeting i will find one . In the meantime im working on my versicolor tank and the smaller will be for the elegans . I thought i knew exactly what i was going to do- which was use a couple geo slices in the corners , kind of like platforms for her to web under , along with a simple branch structure that would segway it all together - it evokes a kind of spare japanese style thing easy on the eye and to clean but then i found these wasabi dishes that look and feel like broad leaves - they are even finely veined very botanical that would be cool too maybe use one for the water dish im finger tapping aloud
sntcruzan

Where Can you get a good close up camera at?
price range?
Bonobo

Yeah Where?

Thats what i want to know and have it be simple dimple , im an old school keeper i smell things , taste things , file things , saw things . Sticks and stones . But i also have watched so deeply and my eyes have been opened to the tools of the time inspired by spectacular fruits of delight and documentation . i just always thought photography was for photographers . But i was so mistaken !
Bonobo

Oh wait you were asking me a direct question i think ! I was broiling a steak when i replied and i hate them overdone . Well i think i could spend a hundred on something so important but i feel a twinge of embarrassment as i dont know what im talking about when it comes to these things , i dont know what to look for . My roommate is a Birder but he only knows about his camara . And yes Up Close that much i do know . And easy to make the pics go into the computer . When i look at the ads by electronic stores the options confuse me unhappily
