skippy

i'm skippy and the proud owner of three dogs. i spent most of my earlier years looking for scaly critters and things that bite and sting but nowadays i spend my winters looking for mushrooms and my summers looking for fish

i've been looking to get back into the hobby but it always seems to be the wrong time so i content myself with the critters i find mushrooming or walking the dogs.

i saw the pics from the nov 8 adventure and thought that would be incredibly fun. do you all make it down to the monterey area at all?
big sur, pfeiffer park, fort ord, nisene marks, pogonip, henry cowell?

i'm planning on acquiring a few spiderlings in the near future but i have to go about it carefully for my gf's sake. she has "problems" with things that are cold blooded(scared to death of moths)

anyway... thrilled to find this group and hope to be able to contribute in some small way. i have some basic knowledge due to extensive reading and spending off time in my buddies pet store but i always love to pick up new stuff! i think the quote is "to admit one knows nothing is the first sign of wisdom." paraphrasing probably but i'm not a philosophy guy so...

Hey, Skippy.

I'm always finding cool mushrooms when i'm looking for salamanders. We'll have to go out looking sometime. I like photographing the fungi.   How'd you find us? Welcome to the group! I'll include a shroom pic just for you.

I forget where I found these. I just like taking photos of them.

Welcome Skippy!

Next photo, Edgar!

all i know about those ones is that you don't want to eat them! i mostly look for the porcini(or king bolete, lots of italians here) and i love taking pics of them too! i'd post some here but i'm not really sure how...

i do sometimes find salamanders underneath when i pluck one. last year i found a painted ensatina under one but usually just the slender salamanders.

Mental note: check under mushrooms  Thanks
darth skippy

only the big ones

and don't lick your fingers afterwards unless you're sure

you could be in for a surprise

edgar, i spent a little time with one of my shroom books after dinner and i believe that you have a picture of galerina autumnalis or the deadly galerina. it basically kills your liver and if a transplant isn't received you die...

cool, huh? :D

So what you're saying is that someone could mix these in with a fresh ragu sauce and serve it on pasta to his or her co-workers at a Christmas potluck, and as long as no one knew he/she brought the dish, he/she could get a way with more than stealing pens and staplers?

I got ya...I get ya.

Remind me not to eat dinner with Edgar.

it would take about four hours for symptoms to really set in so as long as it was a long evening you're golden

 skippy,

Nice you found this place. Hopefully we can plan a trip down to your neck of the woods in spring. It would be fun.

I have been feeling a little woozy since yesterday. Edgar had me try of his Mexican dish, it tasted really good, however I have had all kind of weird things happening since.
me since.
darth skippy

that would be great :-P  thanks for the warm welcome here

i'll be looking forward to this spring...
