SF BATS Meeting Saturday August 2ndHello all, it's time for another meeting! This one will be held on Saturday, August 2nd. We are in the process of trying to get the same place(Concord Veterans Memorial Hall) we had the spring fling meeting in April. Rachel is working on a new flyer and we need some ideas for it. What do we want to call our summer meeting? This meeting will be different because we are combining this meeting with Dave Love's and James Tuttle's meeting for: http://tarantulakings.myfreeforum.org/index.php . Robert of insectgeeks.com will be back and sponsoring this meeting.
Anyone who wants to help is more than welcome to. We need people who can bring paper plates, appetizers, sodas, water, name tags, sharpies and so on. We also need donations for our free drawings if everyone could bring a freebie sling, enclosure, book, t shirt, anything related to tarantula keeping. We want this to be the best meeting ever and we need you to be there or be square! :-P

Banner reads:
SFBATS meets again today!!!
Your one and only San Francisco and Bay Area Tarantulas Society
Come in and visit us or log on to www.SFBATS.org
John suggested having a banner posted outside of our meeting, so pedestrian can see this and get curious and want to check us out.

I'll bring a sling/ juvie enclosure all decorated for the drawing. I can also bring a bunch paper plates..

Put me down for Garlic Artichoke/Spinach Dip with French bread.
I will also see if we can get nice color banner, I checked with Kinko's earlier today and the cost of one the size of 18'' x 48'' is around $60.00. I'll check around for better prices. If anyone has any info let me know.
Maybe Ken can point me in the right direction.

As usual, I will bring a big ice chest with water and diet sodas.

Baylee, if you design something attractive but simple and email it to me, I'll make a banner using poster board and markers. I'm a fairly decent artist and best at copying or enlarging a pre made design... Honestly larger movie style posters would be easier though and we could hang them like a banner.

That would be great! This place is on a corner with a restaurant across the street so all I want is for pedestrians on both sides of the building to know there's tarantulas inside if they want to come in and look .

Looks great Rachel! I think it looks good to go as it is!
|
BayLee

Looks awesome, we should use a simular layout for our banner, IMO

I sent them off to the printer. Just having 100 postcards printed. I can also print more on my printer, and I'll put a PDF on the website for people to download and print if they want. Had to adjust it slightly for postcard size but design is still the same.
Let me know if you need art for the banner! :D

|
Looks good!
Maybe we could just super size it for the "banner"?
|
BayLee
|
Great idea!
Much better than having to creating a different one. What does everyone else think?
|

It sounds like it is a good idea to me.

I have lots of white board which my school is throwing out. I can cut them to size, say, 2 ft by 3 ft or even bigger to attach posters to for rigidity, then attach to a tree, pole or stake driven in the ground. Or, I could bring a bunch of magic erase markers, all colors and we could make 2 big signs with the white board at the meeting
|
Arachnocat
|
I looked into vinyl banners and they're around $30. Paper ones should be fine though. Maybe I'll see how much a poster sized print will be. Unless anyone has a large format printer... :-o

InquiryRachel,
I received the flyers and I have to say that they are awesome
Anyone that is helping or would like to help, please respond with what you are doing or would like to do. You can PM' John , Rachel or myself.
John ,where are we at with RsVp's and who is doing what task? I'll volunteer to help with the clean-up. Do we have a speaker or somebody to do a presentation/s. We can do a Pizza lunch like last time and everyone can bring a food item, snack, ice, cookies or drinks to go with it[]I'll take this part on]. So PM me for your food item that you are bringing to the meeting so I can co-ordinate it.
We also need some items for the FREE Raffle. I have a few things to bring for that.

Yes, great pics! That was a lot of fun and I loved the roach presentation. I now look at them like little creatures instead of pests. Funny how a little information provides a great deal of enlightenment!
It was great to see everyone again, I look forward to next time!

SFBATS 8/2/08 meetingWe had a great meeting last Saturday. Robert of Insectgeeks.com did a wonderful and informative talk on about 10 different roaches that he is documenting for his new book. Thank you for sponsoring us again.
We had a pretty good turn out and lots of great food. Uglykid2 brought his new Megaphobema mesomelas-female that he bought at the ATS conference a couple of weeks ago..I want one of those T's, they are very nice looking.
Ken & Georgi were unable to make it because their daughter decided to be born that morning. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. KenTheBuyGuy on the birth of your daughter.
We are putting together plans for our October meeting. Date of meeting has not been set as of yet. So,if you want to add some new ideas to the SFBATS meeting, please send them along.

I know I'm a bit late in saying how great the meeting was last week, but I have to thank you guys for such a wonderful time! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly! :D
I'm really excited to continue going to meetings, but we have to be careful with how many new friends we bring home!!!
I am SO excited to get the tiger rump I've been wanting for years!! thank you!
although we brought home lots of new family members that day, the hissing roaches were a whole new world for us! Thank you so much for the presentation on these little critters, and the raffle where I was convinced I had to have them! They are so fun and and have a great new home!
I am also excited to post some pictures, but I will have to do that within the next week as I am out of town right now.
Thanks again for all the great fun, info, community, and new family members! We are certainly looking forward to the next meet up!
