Here also is a copy of his PM and email and he brings up some very good points but his rates are a tad steep. Thoughts, anyone?
Thanks John, I'm flattered. I'll see what I can do for you. Our studio rate is $125/hr, but for you guys I'll work for bugs. Let me put some stuff together this week, send it to you & we'll go from there. If you like it we'll make a deal, if not no problems.
Hi John,
I hope you don't mind, I cc'd Lony on this e-mail. I'm sure she'll be
able to provide a lot of great creative input on this project.
Attached are a few preliminary sketches. My recommendation is that you/
we should start with a sharp brand that will perform everywhere you
use it across a broad spectrum of media (web, shirts, flyers, pens
ect). I almost always start my logo development projects in B/W, line-
art for the first round. I'd be happy to do a T-shirt design with a
rider ect. on it, but I recommend you get a brand/logo first & then
expand the brand into images for shirts ect. I felt that combining too
many elements would break down the impact of the logo, so I did
sacrifice some elements in the logos (bridge, rider) to keep things
simple & clear. This wasn't an easy project (but very FUN), keeping
the tarantula society concept central, while incorporating the catchy
"BATS" acronym/bat image, but I think there are a couple of solutions
in this pdf that could work for you. I did use a bat-girl character in
one that I do like, but I'm not sure if it's too "sexy" for your
group :). I can try & tone it down if need be. I'm about 99% positive
it wouldn't "fly" here on the stuffy east coast... At least not for my
usual clientele. I did throw some sketches on T shirts for the second
page of this pdf just for fun/color. A full photoshop picture on the
front with the logo & website on the back was more what I was thinking
for the next step. So anyway, here's what I've got, lmk your thoughts
& if/when you'd like to discuss some kind of compensation/trade. My
estimate would be about 4 more hours work to complete the logo/brand
& another 4 for a full photoshopped bat-winged tarantula rider design.

Freaking Awesome! Those look really great.

Wowaweewa! That's some pricey logo work. How about Rachel doing some logos. All of her work that I've seen is exceptional, and I'm sure she'd do it for less (money or bugs) heheh
I think I saw the girly logo on some mudflaps on the highway. lol
Seriously, though I think Rachel would do some nice one's. Lony would too, but somehow I think she has enough on her plate, at the moment. IDK if Rachel is crazy busy, too, but I vote to pool from the resident talent, if possible.
We can all toss in some ideas, too. What do you guys think?

those are some nifty logos but i agree with edgar on seeing if Rachels not to busy and if shes up to the task

Thanks John and Jeremy for getting us started with our new logo.
A few of those logos are kinda neat. I would love to come up with some more designs for us. I should have time next week, so I'll just post them as I go.
If anyone else has artwork or ideas please post them here. I know we have some really creative people in our group! Even if you just have a sketch or something, I can turn it into vector art to use on shirts, etc.

Thanks everyone for your input! I like a couple of Jeremy's logos but it's too pricey. It's good to see what ideas someone else can come up with to get the creative juices flowing within our own people, don't you think?

i can't say i don't like those, because i do. but i can say they're too much for us.
i'd like to wish i could come up with a design/logo for us, but honestly we'd just just about as well off handing a couple of kindergartners a box of crayons and telling them to draw stuff >_<;
UglyKid2
LOL, same with me! Only they'd be using sticks to draw in the dirt!
