October 11th Meeting - Fall Fang FestThe meeting date will be on October 11th from 11-4.This will be our last big one until the January meeting. We should really advertise more with this one. I'm going to check out how much ads are in local papers. If we can get the press to show up that would be sweet! I'll see what I can do.
Our shirts are sold through cafepress right now but maybe we can figure out a way to get some to sell at the show. ALSO, how about some free stickers or window clings? That shouldn't cost too much. We should have a donation box too. We only got a few donations last time (which were much appreciated!) but I think people weren't sure who to give the money to. think we need a nice big vinyl banner for our meeting locations. Just a generic one we can use at every meeting. I think they're about $30. Will look into it though. :D |

that one sounds good especially right before halloween.. Another way to generate money is a raffle, the way we do it down our way is get donations ie: bugs, containers, bark, forceps, whatever people wanna give, we also have a local pet shop that helps us out and gives us stuff for a little over cost and in return we promote them. we generally spend a lil over $100 each raffle and make at least $250 so we gross around $150, its not much but nothing comes out of our pockets anymore. we sell the tickets at $2 each 6 for $10, 13 for $20. Just some food for thought.. |

I think Craigs List would be a great place for an ad. Once the flyer/postcard is designed I could post it and hand them out at local pet stores including EBV i agree about the banner, I did check with Kinko's, but those are too much. It was around $65. Maybe we can find a cheaper place. I wonder if Minute Man does them too? |

For a banner try a sign shop, they could probably make a quick vinyl sign for a couple $$. You could also advertise in the pennysaver and recycler dot com, and start hitting the different bug and reptile sites like kingsnake.com and whatever ones you can think of. |

Another idea would be to send the flyers/cards to middle and high school biology teachers to give out to the kids, maybe.

Fred what we do is have some door prizes and have a drawing for them, and then have a real raffle and have some major prizes in it. In ours, Tanks always seem to be a big hit and of course the live critters are good too.... W |

How about a crazy game of Tarantula Trivia. We'd break up into teams and show a question or T photo and the team would have to agree on an answer or ID (genus and species). Correct answers win points.
At the end of it, winning team gets some jocose trophy/idol and bragging rights until the next meeting where the champions must defend their title or pass the idol/torphy. Might be a fun tradition to start. Plus, its a fun way to learn stuff! Maybe, someday even do a SFBATS vs. SCABIES showdown. haha Just throwing some ideas out there, seeing what sticks. I like the Tarantula Trivia idea, sounds like fun! The mascot could be a big hairy tarantula puppet (they have them at the local kid store here, for like 20 or 30$).
If we decided on the pass the mascot idea, I or someone else could pick something up or make something and everyone could chip in a few bucks at the next meeting to pay for it. |

I was thinking that if these are going out to the community, maybe use some wording that would catch the eyes of individuals who don't necessarily keep tarantulas and other inverts, but would still come out of pure interest. Maybe insead of "We will trade, sell, and show our inverts, " put something simple-but something that catches community interest like "Come see LIVE Tarantulas! on display and for sale and Trade" Or "LIVE Tarantuls! Scorpions! and Bugs! on display and for sale and trade!" "Fun for all ages!" Something like that. Non-invert people get a kick out of seeing stuff like that, and I think it would peak interest in Mom's, Dad's, and kids, alike :-D Maybe add 'LIVE Tarantulas! LIVE Scorpions! LIVE Bugs!" or something similar, around the edges. Looks like its going to be a great postcard! I'm looking forward to the meeting, already. Nice Job!

I dropped 40 PC's off at EBV today. I went by the Bone Room as well, but the guy was a je*k and said no he had enough cr*p on his counter. I will do more tomorrow in Vallejo, Benicia and Concord.
