New here but some may know me?Hi, just stumbled onto the site via a Craigslist ad. I had to check it out since I started SFBATS many moons ago at my house. Wanted to see if any old timers were still around. I sold off my collection, but may end up with a T or two in the near future. I miss my G. pulchra the most I think.
The first meetings were at my house and our inaugural meeting was close to Halloween. Our Yahoo group had become inactive, so happy to see there are still spider lovers in the area.
best regards and happy holidaze
Tina
I may have some old pics of our first meetings as well. With Troll and Strider and other pioneer T. lovers :D
Just realized I didn't do much in the way of an introduction. I had Ts for years. Up to 64 or so at one point. Everything from rare stuff to common. I also had reptiles, bred Bearded Dragons, had Uros, and Blue Tongues. I had around 14 snakes for many years from hog nose snakes to local rattlers.
I ended up selling off my herps and inverts due to lack of time and money ...went thru a divorce. Got into Falconry for a few yrs. That's on hold for now.
Currently I work at a petstore. I compete with my 2 Whippets at Lure Coursing....one of my girls may end the year in the top 20. I also have a 18yr. old Persian cat , a Canary, and a new Parakeet as well as a few fish. I cut back on my zoo as I'm living in small quarters.
I'll see what pics I can find and see if I can post them. I also have a movie from the ATS conference that I went to of me handling a T. blondi
regards,
Tina
Someone may have to walk me thru how to post pics...not used to Forum format....or I can email them to someone to post for me?[/img]

Welcome back, Tina! I went to the ATS conference this year. When did you go? Can you make it to our meeting in January?

Thank you :) I went many moons ago with friends. Not sure what year it was. I will try to make it to the meeting. Fitting that it is in Concord since that is where it all started.
I don't have my pics hosted so if you or someone else would like, I can email them and maybe you can post them as part of the club' s history?

Tina ,
SFBATS went defunct for a period of time. I'm not sure when. I revived the current version with Matthew Brody, John Troupe, Rachel and Ken/Georgi Macneil a couple of years ago. Since then there has been many new people joining and helping SFBATS to where it is at today. i hope that you can post some history shots and come to our meeting, too.

Thanks for the welcome all. I'm searching for pics. I'm worried that the ones I wanted may have gotten trashed by my ex husband...he reformatted my old computer without asking one day. But I'm running a search now. I did fine a pic of Brian Whitely so that's promising :) I found pics of some of my collection.
Will see what I can find. Will try to make the meeting :)

Hi Tina! Welcome! :D
Are you Faire folk or SCA? Or do you just have historically period interests like falconry and coursing?

picsThe first pic is on stage at the Marin Ren Faire (Stafford Lake) with our Harris Hawk. I was an apprentice falconer and have worked with many birds of prey over the years. I worked small faires for many years, mostly with a Scottish guild, but also did booth work and then ended doing the stage shows with the birds. We are an educational non-profit that takes the birds to schools mainly...faires were a way to get publicity and for fun. My personal birds were a Kestrel and a Western Screech Owl. But I lived with 3 Owls, 4 Hawks and 3 Falcons at one point. Eagle Owl, Lanner Falcon, Buzzard....so some exotic types, not all local.
Second pic is one of my Whippets running a practice course. I do Lure Coursing with my 2 current Whippets. Cara (the one in the pic) is a dual Field Champion and was in the top 20 for AKC Lure Coursing this year. My other dog, her half sister, Misty finished # 17 last year in the U.S.A. My girls are 2 yrs. old so they will get even better :) They have only been running for one year and Cara scares the competition LOL
3rd pic was one of my favorites.....my female Psalm. cambridgei She used to take showers with me (in her cage) she loved the steam and the mist. She'd come out of her web and sit on the glass and preen.
Will find more pics. Have 2 hard drives, so not sure where all of them are located. A friend helped set this computer up, so it's not just me losing things LOL

Really enjoyed the pics! I love birds of prey and there is a pair of red tailed hawks that live near the school where I work. Every morning both of them are sitting on the goal posts and they are our mascots. :D

Very cool! I miss Stafford Lake Faire, but not as much as I miss Black Point! :-? Do you still go to schools?
Where do the dogs course? There was an Irish Wolfhound club at my children's school a couple of months ago. They were going to course the dogs, but I had to work and didn't get to go see it.

I used to have an Irish Wolfhound years ago. Devlin was the best dog I ever had the pleasure to know.

Black Point holds a very special place in many Faire Folk's hearts.
BoP are very cool.
My dogs course all over, Sacto to Hollister to SoCal up to Washington State for the AKC nationals this year. My most local course is Oakland, and I course them a lot in Livermore. I was at the IW club all breed course in Oakley...mine showed the newbies how it's done Whippet style.
I've gone out hunting with a big female Red Tail....she was awesome. Her falconer released her to breed after having her several years. She left him in great shape and a super hunter.
We have a wild pair of Great Horned Owls in the trees in the yard, lots of oaks on this property. They are calling every night :)
