Live animals/inverts/reptiles at meetingsHi All,
I need to post this info for all to read about what is acceptable to bring to meetings. Due to the fact that accidents happen and they will. many of us have alot of different type of "pets" and even though we know how to handle or house different types of specimens,we need to keep the public safe. There is also the fact that we can be liable for those kind of mistakes. let's keep the dangerous "pets" at home.
The following is a general list of what is accepted and what is not. If it is not on the list , please ask a SFBATS officer for approval first before bringing them to a meeting.
ACCEPTABLE:
Tarantulas
Millipedes
Centipedes
Mantids
Cockroaches (properly housed in an escape proof container)
Beetles
Scorpions (NO *HOT* ONES)
snakes,with approval
geckos
anoles
amphibians
NOT ACCEPTABLE::
Venomous snakes
Venomous lizards
Ants
Rodents

Froggies shoud be fine. We just don't want anything super venemous that will most likely send someone to the hospital if they're bitten. Trying to keep our meetings only "mildly venemous". Hehe.

not that i'm especially concerned but, what's wrong with ants?
just curious

Where do centipedes fall under? one of our members went to the hospital from an allergic reaction to a bite.
Or Pokies for that matter?
And just a question, what if said Venemous creature was in a locked display. would that be okay?
From an outside point of view you'll be limiting yourselves to what will be acceptable/ allowed.
Now if you had rules/ guidelines on how to display (locked enclosure) or handeling(or lack of) that would work much better..
I understand the main concern is for the safety of members and Joe Public, but chances are greater to get tagged buy a T, scorp, Pede, then getting bit or tagged by something venomous thats properly locked in a display.
guidelines/ rules are better then bans in my opinion

Also, if they get out and into the T's, roaches or other inverts and animals, that's not a good thing

Ants don't go well with T's and we don't want them running through the Vet's hall

OH man,
I was going to bring my bullet ants for people to hold.
well too bad
On a serious note now, I understand Fred, it is too much liability having something really really hot like that.

LOL!That bullet ant quote was priceless!
Guess this means no tigers? Awww, sorry Puss 'N Boots, you can't go. ^_^
Kind of bummed, I missed the meeting in April.. All well next time and maybe I'll have plenty of jumpers to bring and I should get my new camera lens by then.
