I am getting us 2 tables and scabies will have 2 tables as well. Francisco invited us to have our tables next to theirs. I am in favor of this idea because it gives us a perfect opportunity to show the world that bats are far superior to scabies! :-P
So far Laurie and I are the only 2 committed to be there. We will need more bats members to come down and help man the tables even if only for an hour or two. A man's gotta pee when a man's gotta pee! They will be educational, not for selling anything. The reason for this is the retail tables cost up to $200 while ours will be only $25-$35 each. So how about it, folks? Who wants to pitch in for the team and get our name out there in the big leagues?

Well I dont know about Bats being better then SCABIES but it will def. get your name out there, last year a couple of our members were interviewed by Huell Howser and brodcast in Nov. on his show California Gold. It is alot of fun and rewarding to see peoples faces when you let them hold a millipede, T or scorp for their first time. But like John said when nature calls you gotta go...

Wow, that is really nice of her, but....

I couldn't find the Casey Inn, anywhere. I looked online on all the usual travel sites, but couldn't find any reviews.

If we're going to do this, I'm need to make sure some arrangements will be taken care of. I've included a partial list.

o I need my own room
o A bed that will sleep at least two other people
o If i'm going to share a bathroom I want my own tub and sink
o I'll need lavender and camomile scented bath beads
o A rack with an assortment of moisturizers and scented soaps
o Bathroom must be equipped with a shower radio, candles, matches, ski mask, three snorkels, and a shower cap.
o I want rose pedals scattered on the bed each evening.
o Wireless internet access
o A fully stocked personal bar
o Champagne on ice, nightly
o Room service, turndown service, neck/back/footrub service, and a soft serve frozen yogurt machine
o I like music, so a decent personal sound system with sub-woofers is a must.
o Finally, and most importantly I'll need someone to read to me from Sonnets from the Portuguese each night. She must have a Central European accent and run her fingers through my hair until i fall asleep each evening.
o Oh, and several boxes of tissues.

Once i confirm this will be provided, I'll send my deposit to reserve the room.

I have committed to help both days since I am part of the SFBATS and I dont live far from the show.

There are 3 of us which includes me but John wants one more. Im trying to convince him that 3 is enough.

Come on John, SFBATS needs to invade the southern borders!!!!!!!!!

I think 3 is plenty. I'd be happy to sit at the table all day talking to people. It's pretty much all we'd be doing, anyway. Even if we did shifts, two could stay at the table while one walks around, if he/she wants to.

Three is plenty. I think.

Well the table can still be there with a lot of fliers and information on about SFBATS, it doesn't really need to manned if it can't be.

I have seen tables there with just information or one person in the table.

I am serious let us know if no one can attend, just get one table and mail me the information or material to be display and I will set it up for you guys.

Ok , Since I can probably pull some strings at this show, Let me work some magic and see if I can get a small table downstairs set up next to where I will be.

I will print some flyers and some business cards out.

I will already have animals for handling so let me see about putting some SFABTS goodies out and I can hand stuff out as well as keeping my other committments.

Ok, so I was told that the tables are pretty much sold out for the bug fair...

Anyhow, I got the ok to hand out SFBATS goodies at the table I will be working at on the bottom floor which will have ALOT of exposure.

I probably won't have room for a banner though....

So far I have business cards and Rachel is working on flyers.

If you need me to hand anything else out, let me know.

Bug Fair is this weekend! I'm so excited.

BTW for those who don't know, Francisco got SFBATS a table at the Fair. He also paid for our table! SO, we'll be representing in both Northern and Southern California this weekend.

Native BATS will be manning the SF show while Dee and I hold down the fort in LA.

Day one of bug fair complete.

Became aquainted with many new SCABIES.

I saw dinosaurs. I like dinosaurs. They were rad.

Place was filled with nothing but bug vendors.

Dee made a lasagna, tonight. If I were an REM song...I"d be Happy Shiny People. :P

...so cool.

The show was a success.

SCABIES and SFBATS tables were really bussy.

I heard that around 14 thousand people attended for the weekend

I was a little bit disapointed as I did not know what time Edgar or Denise left and no one took care of the group's display board and it almost went to the trash. I luckily found it before it was too late.

Sean, Dee, and I left an hour early on Sunday so I would be able to make it to my flight home on time.

It was a great weekend, though I'm a little sleep deprived. I will catch up on that tonight, for sure.

Francisco, thank you so much for getting us the table. Our table was swamped every time we had the animals out. My throat is scratchy from saying the same thing over and over again. lol Francisco, you made our weekend.

Thanks for the wondeful table. We had a great spot and we handed out alot of material! We appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I am too deprived of sleep (Edgar, you are such a night owl!!!!) so I hope to get some pictures up in the next couple of days. Edgar got some great shots as well.

It was an exciting weekend with thousands of people. It was non stop madness but very enjoyable. Hopefully we get some new members from the socal region!

Sean worked his tailend off with Chris at Krazy 8's! They sold alot of goodies!

On a side note, I am sorry for the loss of T that died at the SCABIES table. It is unfortunate that when we try to educate the public about these wondeful creatures, one dies because of it. I know its a risk we take.

I did have handling at our BATS table but I only allowed people to hold my juvie curlyhair because for the most part, she sits there. It's when they start crawling that people may get freaked out. It is a full time position for one person. I was always on guard and I would hold their arm if needed. I was also ready to grab the spider as well. I make them put the hand and arms on the table and they are not allowed to move for the safetly of the spider. I said the same thing over and over and it was very exhausting. However, it was very rewarding at the same time. I had people very scared to hold my curlyhair. I slowly convinced them to hold the spider, and they eneded up falling in love. It was amazing to see the transformation in attitudes with people.

All in all, it was great show and it would not have been possible without Francisco hooking up the BATS table!

Yes, the LA Bugfair was very fun. It was great catching up with some people I havn't seen in a while and all that stuff.

And yes, some questions were asked 10 times a minute. The same question. Almost word for word. But, many people walked away a little wiser than before and many with a new 8 legged friend.

Oh, it was a very nice building. The booths were set up throughout the museum, itself, so it was all very nice. Nice pics, Dee.
