I think 2009 has the potential for some serious growth and activity for SFBATS. Our ads have been bringing in new members to the forum fairly consistently, and we have some working ideas on the table.
We have the opportunity to have a lot of fun this next year!
One of the things I'd love to work on is find ways to generate funds for use for SFBATS activities. Being self sufficient will open doors for us to really get ourselves out there and be known.
Current working ideas include:
SFBATS Gear
T-shirts, Patches, Bumper Stickers, Decals, Keychains, magnets, etc. Stuff we can offer for sale and hand out.
Magazine
No small task! Still, a very cool idea and feasible if we work hard on it. We can do a lot with this.
SFBATS Videos
In addition to member profiles and videos, I'd like to do a series of videos with Ken the Bug Guy. Internet presence is big in our hobby, and it would be a great way tag our name along with his efforts while cementing Ken's reputation as a quality dealer at the top. I'd also like to make videos of all our meetings to encourage even more visitors.
SFBATS Live Bug Shows!
I did this full time for two years with reptiles, but now that everyone and their grandmothers are doing reptile shows, I think it would be an excellent idea to do educational presentations and exhibits, with inverts, at schools, special events, daycare centers, fairs, etc. This has the potential to bring in some real cash for SFBATS world domination.
SFBATS at the Shows
I would really love to have some SFBATS representatives at an SFBATS table at each one of the reptile expos this year. We can make a banner and display some great live animals while handing out cards, sell issues of our magazine and other SFBATS goodies, and cards, while chatting with people and introducing them to our fine group and members.
SFBATS on TV
While we were able to get a story done about us this past year, I'd like to have a couple of us appear on a Bay Area or Northern California TV program highlighting SF Bay Area Stuff. We can bring some animals and personally talk about our group.
SFBATS Trips and Adventures!
We should definitely get out there this year and find some critters! We can take some trips to places around the area for some fun. Group trip to the Academy of Sciences, other museums and places. If we generate enough money we can even put it towards a big trip and help cover our own expenses. There is a lot we can do and see!

Those all sound like great ideas. I'm taking a break from my classes so I can focus on fun stuff like this next year. I can't wait!!

I've read that roaches have a horrible aftertaste. I was thinking of offering my roaches some Altoids as a courtesy.
