We have been in contact with the Exploratorium regarding an event they are holding there on Halloween. Unfortunately, even though it's still months away, we are already booked both for SFBATS and NBHS on that day.
Here is an excerpt from one of the emails we have received from the Exploratorium.
We are hosting our 2nd annual Halloween program on Saturday, October 31st, 2009. We hope to offer a fun and safe place for local families and adults to enjoy Halloween during the daytime and evening. Activities that we may be offering at this event include a cemetery of dead science ideas, a local artist creating sugar skulls, and a haunted house on wheels!
Another idea we are also considering for the evening is to demystify the scariness of certain "scary animals". The idea is to bring these animals and insects into the museum for kids to see...but also to have stories for each one about why they are great, what makes them amazing, how they are essential, how we benefit from them, etc
To that end, we are hoping to that we might elicit the help of the SFBATS. We'd love to bring some tarantulas and possibly other kinds of spiders into our museum for our visitors to see first hand and what they are really like. We also feel that the best possible way to do this would be to have the Tarantula Society experts on-hand to tell the kids amazing facts about the animals and insects.
I'd like to know if we have any volunteers who would be willing to man tables at this event. Rachel and John are already commited to the Petaluma show. The Exploratorium event is from 3pm-8pm, which I know would conflict with some families trick-or-treat activities or party activities. If you do have family and would like to bring them, that is OK. The museum will provide two tables and will make an as yet undetermined donation to SFBATS if we can pull this off.
Questions? Comments? Volunteers?!!! Let me know...we don't have to commit yet, but I would like to give them an idea as soon as I can.
THANKS from your Ambassador/Education team!

I will be helping NBHS at the Petaluma Bazaar as I'm a member of their club as well and this is their big yearly event.
I'll probably be at the SFBATS booth too at some point but I can't say for sure so we will need a few more volunteers.
I should know when it gets a little closer what my NBHS duties will be and how much time I will be able to spend at the SFBATS booth.
