frequency of changing out substrate? How often do people change out the substrate for their tarantula's cage? I only seem to be doing it when moving them to larger cages. Should I be doing it more frequently?
This past week I got two new tarantulas from santacruzan. One is a Cyclosternum fasciatum and the other is Brachypelma boehmei. The C. fasciatum seems like it has outgrown its vial container so I'm thinking of upgrading its container size. This has gotten me thinking about how often I should the substrates for my other T's.
Attached is a pic of the new C. fasciatum feeding on a roach and a pic of my G. aureostriata's cage.

- When substrate becomes really unpleasant to my nose (no more of the nice earthy smell)
- When there's a lot of dirty webbing; like with poop or food particles I can't easily remove.
- When fungus, mites or maggots appear.
- and if the T just did not like the substrate.
