Do you guys leave your T's home alone when out of town?

Next week I have training in S0 Cal, my wife will be taking care of the T's from Mon-Wed then flying out on Thrusday so we can do a weekend in Santa Monica. My 2 T's will be home alone from Thursday-Sunday, any recomendations?

I bought a bigger water bowls to make sure they have enough water over the weekend, my G. Rosea Ill feed on Sunday (1 cricket) and I have my new river (about 3 inches) on a cricket every other day....does this sound right?

you can feed as much as you like, it will just make them grow faster but, they should be fine all on their own for a couple weeks at least. you have 2 sp that like it dry and are really slow growing so enjoy your weekend unencumbered by guilt

what if ill be gone for at least one month. would a big meal such as mice last for that long?
darth skippy

mice are generally frowned upon, due to their calcium content. as long as you get someone to water them a few times they should be fine without food until you get back.
flipako

oh okie ill keep that as a future reference. still have a sling anyways haha

generally speaking water is the limiting factor and not food

also,  i don't think the calcium thing with mice has ever been proven.  i could probably design an experiment for it, but ppl tend to be wimpy about tests to destruction and wasting dozens of tarantulas so i doubt we will ever actually know for sure

that's a good point about the mice... how about this: it will make a nasty mess that you will have to clean up before you leave so it doesn't rot and stink when you get home.
flipako

haha okie. I definitely keep that in mind haha

Yes it is a stinky meal for sure, especially if the remains are not disposed of within a few days. Like Andrew says, they can go a long time without food but they need their water.

thanks alot guys! i feel a little less guitly now :) their temp will stay in the high 70-to low 80's (around 81/82) so they should be a ok :)

I only feed my Ts like every 2 weeks... Went out of town they did ok.

I think I over-feed mine by giving them one cricket just about every other day, but I am sure they'd easily be fine for a lot longer as long as there's water.  My concern about leaving for a duration would be keeping the slings' enclosures moist (if appropriate) since they're too small for water dishes.

I personally do not feed any of our T's pinkies. Some members may,but it's rather messy with smelly left overs not to mention it can create mite problems inside of the enclosure if anything is left behind.

There could also and issue that high calcium diets could cause molting problems (wet molts perhaps). This has yet to be well documented but I'm not going to try it on any of mine.
