CRIS Trip to Morgan Territory (((PHOTOS)))I organized a trip with members of CRIS and the North American Field Herping Association (NAFHA) Northern California Chapter. We went on a hike in Morgan Territory near Mt. Diablo looking for herps and inverts.
I didnt get shots of all the critters we found. There were a few cool spiders and beetles that others got pics of. I'll post those once others post their shots.
Here are my pics. :) We had a great time.
Chad with some blurry uh, bullfrog. Don't ya just love the look on his face. He must love really love bull frogs.
At the beginning, we saw a TON of small Rana draytonii California Red-legged Frogs
We also managed to shrink The Chad down to 12" tall, somehow. Still, here he remains stoic and contemplative about some herpetological matter.
Chad finally decided to come out of the tree after Mike threatened him with a barrage of granola from his pack.
We found a couple of these centipedes. We offered one a grasshopper, which it readily accepted and ate.
It was a piggy.
Josh found this solfugid, which was as aggressive and as nasty as they are expected to be. They are way cool.
Sweet-looking Kibramoa sp. We came across two of these that day.
Natalie during break time.
Chad messing with his camera while shooting an oreganus
I got some pics of it, too. :) Dev flipped this little one soon after we got started; our only captured snake of the day. Rusty just missed catching a whipsnake, which Chad, Rusty, Mike, and Dev tried hard to get out of a rockpile without success. It would have been cool to catch it, but we were happy with this little guy.
Crotalus oreganus Northern Pacific Rattlesnake
I got this great shot of the Chad and the Cakeman during the oreganus photoshoot!
Thumb Pseudacris Mike snagged around the pond
Austin spotted this beautiful adult draytonii. Awesome red coloration throughout.
Josh shooting the oreganus
Josh shoots while Mike wrangles
Dev turned up this lady.
She liked to sneak into my shots.
Dev kept telling us his ear felt weird. Natalie investigates.
Dang, these scelops are all over the place, aren't they? Who has who, here?
Cool trip with cool people...and I went, too.
Me, Mike, Josh, Rusty, Vicente, Devlin, Austin, Natalie, and The Chad (Josh's wifey behind the camera) :)
Awesome trip, and we were glad to have seen two snakes out so easily this late in the year. October is here, the air is cooling and its time to start planning those Salamander trips, again.
We all went to Round Table afterward and stuffed ourselves silly with a whole lot of pizza.
I had a great time, and everyone was awesome.
