all points bulletin: N. chromatus on the looseMuch to my extreme annoyance, it appears that my very tiny N. Chromatus sling, probably 1/3", escaped from its pillcase. There were holes in the top, and I can't believe it squeezed through one, but I guess it did, because it absolutely is gone. I have looked around as best I could in a room which is absolutely cluttered with crap and 100% shelved along the walls for a spider so small I hardly could find it in the vial it was sent to me in.
Should I assume it will simply crawl somewhere and die?

honestly, spiders that size are very hard to recover...i lost about 150 1/3" orange malaysian huntsmans and only ever saw maybe 3. i believe the rest were either eaten by other spiders in the house or died of dehydration :X
dont give up though, give the room a good once over if you can, make sure to take care as you lift things up and put them down, i would bet it is still within 5' of where the vial was.
Ts are survivors to the max, with some luck it might hang about for a good while, i lost a .5" avic.purpurea sling for like 2 weeks and found the cheeky bugger inside one of my roach bins (fat and happy i must say) . i also lost a 4" l.difficilus about a month ago...that one never turned up
anyway, just keep checking, it couldnt have gotten too far! and good luck

Brother, I hope you are right... but look at this picture, and then tell me you think I could give this area a once-over trying to find a spider which is 1/4"-1/3"! It's....... depressing.
And yes, those are 8-track tapes holding down the lids of Kritter Keepers so I don't have to pry the lids open and disturb the tarantulas.

Did you empty out the pillcase and go through the sub? They are really good diggers.
I hope it turns up, most likely on your face in the middle of the night and about triple the size.

That is a bummer. I have one the same size and would hate for it to disappear. Best of luck in it's recovery!
