A few weeks ago I split a 10 gallon tank with plexiglass and put two plexi doors on it. I put an IM P. pederseni from Stew in one side and my escape artist A. versicolor in the other side. ((They are about the same size, 3.4-4")) Tonight, I came in to the the pokie sitting on the wall of his cage. I thought to myself, that's funny... it just molted, I thought it would be larger, it looks kind of round too instead of long.. and really fuzzy. But then I thought what the hell. I'll take a picture, maybe it matured. When the flash went off I knew the colors were all wrong. Not only did it not mature, it wasn't even the pokie. It was the impersonating avic who has now been named Houdini (last time it escaped onto the window shade).
Funnily enough I was more worried about the avic eating the pokie than visa versa and who knows how long she had been in there. I tried to grab her with my bare hands, and she turned around and slapped me so I cupped her and pulled her out that way. Then I frantically dug around looking for pokie leftovers. Nothing. Guess where I found him. In the Houdini's enclosure. They had switch sides. I still can't believe it.
Anyways, for tonight, Houdini is in an empty coffee jar, and the pokie is taped into Houdini's enclosure where he's built himself a nice hammock. II think I got the message. So tomorrow I'm going to be redoing cages. I'll post some pictures of the culprits then.
Lesson: Just don't do it. They're better of using the hole tank to themselves than sharing. Tweezer feed if you don't think they'll find it themselves, but my Ts over 3" have had no inhibitions about traveling 5 or 10 gal enclosures to hunt down crickets.

Wow - how amazing that they SWITCHED. Yes, I had been warned about split enclosures by an ex-girlfriend, who came home to discover that one of her tarantulas was fat, and the other was a lump of goo.

Are you sure your significant other did not just turn the cage 180 degrees on ya?

Now THAT would have been funny. Except the pokie had a piece of bark in a circle and his molt was inside. The avic had a long and some fake ivy. And I had just moved the avic there from another cage she excaped from. :-/

Now it sounds like you got yourself a little smart one on your hands. You better move it to a better enclosure.
