Since we can't necessarily depend on another article to bring in the crowd like this past meeting. We should try to think of good ways to get the news out there.
Taking an ad out in the paper is one option, though may be pricey, but we can look into it.
I also thought about making paper flyers. These can be posted around communities and even taken door to door, if we can do that. It would require some fun SFBATS foot/field work, though. :D That's one way to get a lot of flyers out.
All SFBATS members, post your creative advertising ideas that would be relatively inexpensive. All ideas, lets brainstorm!
Here are some ideas that I thought of, so far:
BRAINSTORM
------------------
o Craigslist --- FREE
o Social Networking Site Bulletins --- FREE
o Announcements on other forums (with permission) --- FREE
o Postcards (like we've been using) I like these :D
o Paper Flyers
o Ad in well circulated Newspaper
o Pitch to media outlets for news stories
o TV ad (this may be worth looking into) If we can create the commercial, getting a few spots to run may be affordable and worth it.
o Invite Scout Groups/Summer Day Camps/Summer School Classes, etc. Lots of activities and groups looking for things to do during the Summer, so it would be a good idea to actively invite them.
Post your advertising ideas, and feedback, so we can have another great turnout! _________________ Edgar Support the fight against "The Python Ban" www.Calris.org
As mentioned, posting fliers in pet stores is a great idea, and I would add to that vet hospitals, feed stores and in the science buildings of local universities (I could do Sonoma State and maybe College of Marin) and maybe even high schools.

1. I know the last thing we need is to read one more piece of e-mail, but it would be cool to compile an e-mail list and send out news/meeting info to everyone notifying them of SFBATS events. Not only will this generate new members but it's a good reminder for current members, particularly those that are not as active. All we need to do is have guests fill out our business card with their email address so that we have their contact information.
2.Since there are shows between now and the meeting, maybe have some specific flyers made up advertising the meeting date. That way, you can hand flyers out to people at the show! Free advertisement!
I also agree with Laurie: If at all possible, set the October date as well.
3. Post flyers up in Vet offices, especially ones that treat inverts and reptiles.
4. Laurie mentioned pet stores which is a great idea. Not just Petco or Petsmart but those establishments that sell inverts and reptiles. Also invite all the employees and tell them to tell their friends.
5. Dont forget your Chamber of Commerce. They will take the flyers and run them through with their newsletters. The Chamber is a great way to advertise and you can network with alot of business owners which means we can post flyers and its a way of attracting new members as well. _________________ Dee

Great ideas, everyone. Denise, great list. I like the email idea. We try to register every person that comes to a meeting and we can save their email addresses to send out announcements for later events bringing back people who've already attended, too.
Also, we could look into a radio ad, too. :D _________________ Edgar Support the fight against "The Python Ban" www.Calris.org

I had an idea for the SF show relating to newsletters/email ads.
How about people sign up for our mailing list and then are entered into a drawing to win an SFBATS shirt.
We could just have a regular mailing list sign up but I thought the idea of winning something might get some more people to stop and sign up at our booth...
Then maybe we can e-mail and actually mail postcards/flyers to people.
